- 19 Thomas Edison and the “first” light bulb
Other Notable Dates
- 1906 — The General Electric Company were the first to patent a method of making tungsten filaments for use in incandescent lightbulbs. Edison himself had known tungsten would eventually prove to be the best choice for filaments in incandescent light bulbs, but in his day, the machinery needed to produce the wire in such a fine form was not available.
- 1910 — William David Coolidge of General Electric improved the process of manufacture to make the longest lasting tungsten filaments.
- 1920s — The first frosted lightbulb is produced and adjustable power beam bulbs for car headlamps, and neon lighting.
- 1930s — The thirties saw the invention of little one-time flashbulbs for photography, and the fluorescent tanning lamp.
- 1940s — The first ’soft light’ incandescent bulbs.
- 1950s — Quartz glass and halogen light bulb are produced
- 1980s – New low wattage metal halides are created
- 1990s – Long life bulbs and Compact Fluorescent bulbs make their debut.

Trivia
- Lightbulb has been the first character to appear in every intro of Inanimate Insanity.
- So far, Lightbulb has been shattered in 7 episodes. «The Arena Of Death», «One-Shot Wonder», «A New Stage In The Game», «War De Guacamole», «The Snowdown»,»Mine Your Own Business» and partially in «Everything’s A-OJ».
- Lightbulb and Paper are the only contestants to be eliminated twice in one season
Lightbulb and Suitcase are also the only contestants to rejoin the game for reasons besides voting for eliminated contestants to rejoin due to an unfair elimination.
.
- Lightbulb is the lowest-ranked female season one contestant to join Inanimate Insanity II
In contrast, Lightbulb will be the highest-ranked female season one contestant in Inanimate Insanity II, due to her being the only one still in the game.
.
- Coincidentally, Lightbulb has been eliminated in episodes that have two words: the first being «The» and then a word beginning with the letter «s». («The Stacker», «The Snowdown»)
- Lightbulb has said «OMGA!» on various occasions.
- Lightbulb is the only object who has been Team Captain twice, as she was team captain of Team Epic and team captain of The Bright Lights.
- In the original version of «Breaking the Ice», Lightbulb was originally going to win a pie-eating challenge; with dropout Hay Bale
This was referenced as one of the challenge ideas on MePhone4’s whiteboard in «Rain On Your Charade», as well as in «Alternate Reality Show» when Lightbulb heats a pie for Hay Bale with her electrical powers.
, and both become team captain.
- Lightbulb was referred to as a male in «The Crappy Cliff», «A Lemony Lesson» and «The Arena of Death
According to Adam Katz, this was to avoid the in-balance of genders.
«, but referred to as female in future episodes.
- Lightbulbs in real life are usually white when off, and yellow when on. However, Lightbulb is yellow when off, and white when on.
- Lightbulb loves oatmeal raisin cookies and is possibly her favorite food.
- Lightbulb is the first female to be confirmed in the second season.
- Lightbulb is the first character to figure out that Paintbrush is non-binary. She may be the only one who knows this, but it is unclear, as Fan uses their correct pronouns in «Mine Your Own Business».
- Lightbulb’s voice appears to be more masculine mid-way through Season 2.
- After Test Tube elimination in «Hatching the Plan», Lightbulb is the final Bright Lights member remaining in Inanimate Insanity II.
- Lightbulb is seen to have fast reflexes, in «Let Er’ R.I.P
The newspaper she reads supports this, as the only legible text reads «READERS OF NEWSPAPERS ARE FOUND TO HAVE EXTREMELY FAST REFLEXES.
» when she doesn’t hesitate to block the pumpkin flung at her as a safety prize.
As of «Hatching the Plan», Lightbulb and Suitcase are the only females left in the game.

To make a light bulb, start by connecting 5 6-volt batteries end to end using electrical tape. Then, take a piece of copper wire and hook one end onto the positive end of the battery chain and the other end onto a piece of graphite pencil lead. Next, take a second piece of copper wire and attach one end to the graphite. Once the graphite is attached to both copper wires, place a jar over it. Finally, turn on your light bulb by touching the loose end of the second piece of copper wire to the negative end of the battery chain. BlackHat Europe 2016 Presentation
In this presentation we introduce a novel, efficient, approach for bypassing WAFs using automata learning algorithms. We show that automata learning algorithms can be used to obtain useful models of WAFs. Given such a model, we show how to construct, either manually or automatically, a grammar describing the set of possible attacks which are then tested against the obtained model for the firewall. Moreover, if our system fails to find an attack, a regular expression model of the firewall is generated for further analysis. Using this technique we found over 10 previously unknown vulnerabilities in popular WAFs such as Mod-Security, PHPIDS and Expose allowing us to mount SQL Injection and XSS attacks bypassing the firewalls. Finally, we present LightBulb, an open source python framework for auditing web applications firewalls using the techniques described above. In the release we include the set of grammars used to find the vulnerabilities presented.

Lightbulb is the omniscient leader of The Bright Lights. She strives to be the ultimate leader but makes sure to follow The Rules Of Objects Shows. Her love for cookies can cause her to be clumsy here and there, but she will brighten up the way for her teammates… as long as they do what she says. |

As the almighty leader of the Bright Lights, Lightbulb strives to brighten the mood in the darkest of times. Though her ideas may usually seem a bit dim, Lightbulb is never discouraged for long and will always strive to do what is right, even if her solutions are… rather unconventional. Lightbulb’s combination of quirkiness and authority tends to lead to universal disasters or unexplainable victories. |

Manual Installation
You can also use the following steps to install the latest version of the extension from this repository manually in Burp.
First, it is recommended to increase the available memory for Burp using the following command:
Also, Lightbulb uses the native binary of flex parser. As a result, it is recommended to install flex before using the tool. In Debian system it can be installed with the following command:
Then, you have to setup a working environment with Burp Proxy and Jython
- Find your local python packages installation folder*
- Configure Burp Extender to use these values, as shown below*
Select the new LightBulb module («BurpExtension.py») and set the extension type to be «Python»
*You can ignore this step, and install the standalone version which contains all the required python packages included. You can download it here
** The latest Jython 2.7.X is supported. However MySQL Differential Learning may still require an older version (eg. Jython 2.5.X) since the MySQL connector jar cannot be dynamically imported in the classpath.

To change a light bulb, all you need to do is disconnect the power, remove the old bulb, and screw a new bulb into place. First, head to your fuse box and turn off the power for the light you want to change. If you’re changing a lamp, unplug it from the wall. This way there won’t be any chance of electrocuting yourself. If the bulb was on recently, wait a few minutes to let it cool down. To reach ceiling lights, stand on a sturdy chair or stepladder that won’t wobble or tip. If the bulb is a screw fitting, twist the bulb counter clockwise. In some places, like the UK, bayonet fittings are also common. If you have a bayonet fitting, you’ll need to push it in slightly and twist it counter clockwise. After you’ve removed the old bulb, insert the new one and twist it clockwise. For bayonets, you’ll need to line it up with the pins, push it in, and twist clockwise. For more tips, including how to reach a light bulb in a high ceiling, read on!

Synopsis
The framework consists of two main algorithms:
-
GOFA: An active learning algorithm that infers symbolic representations of automata in the standard membership/equivalence query model.
Active learning algorithms permits the analysis of filter and sanitizer programs remotely, i.e. given only the ability to query the targeted program and observe the output.
-
SFADiff: A black-box differential testing algorithm based on Symbolic Finite Automata (SFA) learning
Finding differences between programs with similar functionality is an important security problem as such differences can be used for fingerprinting or creating evasion attacks against security software like Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) which are designed to detect malicious inputs to web applications.
Thomas Edison and the “first” light bulb
In 1878, Thomas Edison began serious research into developing a practical incandescent lamp and on October 14, 1878,
Edison filed his first patent application for «Improvement In Electric Lights». However, he continued to test several
types of material for metal filaments to improve upon his original design and by Nov 4, 1879, he filed another U.S.
patent for an electric lamp using «a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected … to platina contact wires.»
Although the patent described several ways of creating the carbon filament including using «cotton and linen thread,
wood splints, papers coiled in various ways,» it was not until several months after the patent was granted that Edison
and his team discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament could last over 1200 hours.
This discovery marked the beginning
of commerically manufactured light bulbs and in 1880, Thomas Edison’s company, Edison Electric Light Company begain
marketing its new product.
Original carbon-filament bulb from Thomas Edison.
